Perfecting The Saints When Growing Based on Ephesians 4

Here is a audio recording of a teaching I presented to lay members of our church body.  There is much information that is beneficial for pastors and church leaders who are building a church congregation based on the Ephesians 4 model of the five-fold leadership and a body where the spiritual gifts are and will be in operation.

“Planning For Perfected-ness” (part 1) – Eph 4 & I Cor 12

The following ten points were not explicitly stated in the teaching, because the audience was laity, yet they are applicable to church leadership who are leading apostolically.

When Leading Apostolically (or According to the Ephesians 4 Model)

1. Pray, pray, watch and pray.
2. Equip, teach, train, mentor and give members space and opportunity for each to develop his/her spiritual gifts.
3. Deal with anything and everything within your control that is hindering any member of the body from growing and developing his/her spiritual gift.
4. Ensure everyone respects the authority of each member of the five-fold leadership as well as authority that has been delegated down to others.
5. Seek God for instructions on how and when to set-up the members into ministry work, and do so according to the gift He wants to develop in each member during each season.
6. Release members to operate in their gift at the appropriate time.
7. Discern what each member needs in order to develop and mature in his/her gift area – you will not be able to “raise” everyone the same way.
8. Accept that everyone will not grow at the same pace, so you cannot use a “first in first out” approach.
9. Hold each member accountable for keeping his or her commitment to the work of the ministry.
10. Improve your own ability to develop and lead people working in teams.
